The Requirement The Solution Preferred supplied and configured a fibre channel disk array within a storage area network (SAN) environment to support the live environment. Microsoft 2000 clustered servers running Exchange and a single KVS archive server were connected to the SAN via switches to support the live Exchange environment. In addition to the SAN, Preferred also supplied and implemented an HP intel server with Veritas Netbackup software to ensure the optimal backup environment was achieved through management of online data backups directly from the SAN to an Ultrium tape library, minimizing the network load, user intervention and system downtime. To ensure maximum availability of the email environment, Preferred assisted in the implementation of a scaled down version of the live environment as a standby solution for used in the event of live failure. The live and standby environments were then duplicated at sites in the US, Singapore and Tokyo. Technology
